Indian boxer Vijender Singh recently refused to provide blood and hair samples for forensic examination in regards to a drug case. Just a day after his refusal, the Punjab Police said that it would move to the court to force Vijender to cooperate.
Singh was interrogated for about three hours on Monday about his involvement in last week’s major drug racket revelation. During the interrogation, the boxer had avoided several questions about the drug bust at the narcotic smuggler Anoop Singh’s home in Zirakpur, Mohali.
The police are likely to move to the court as soon as possible, as the evidence of drugs stays on the hair just for a few months and a delay in the tests might result in flawed results. The Punjab Police will not accept the results of the tests on any sample which has been collected from the boxer or by any other agency, including the National Anti-Doping Agency or the Haryana Police.
Hardayal Singh Mann, the SSP Fatehgarh Sahib said that the police does not just want to concentrate on the boxer alone, but are keen to nab others involved in the international drug chain as well. According to sources from the police, Vijender is unlikely to be interrogated again. National boxing coach GS Sandhu, said that Vijender had asked for a break from a camp at NIS Patiala until March 17, 2013 to sort things out.
