For the first time, Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki is offering a discount of Rs. 5,000 on its best selling car, the Maruti Swift. The decision was taken due to the current slack condition of the Indian car market, due to which Maruti was forced to join other manufacturers on the discount wagon.
The offer though, is only on the diesel variant of the vehicle. Moreover, the company is offering a no-waiting period on its hatchback. Maruti is also offering a discount of Rs. 10,000 on its Swift Dzire compact sedan. In recent times, the sales of the vehicle have fallen by 8 percent, in the month of February 2013.
During this month, the total sales were recorded at 1,09,567 units. The sales of the company’s other vehicles like the Estilo, Swift and Ritz models, in its compact segment, have also gone down. Compact segment sales went down by 13.90 percent to 24,021 units, from 27,899 units in the same month a year ago.
In the year 2012, Maruti’s Swift was considered to be the best-selling car in the country, next to the company’s very own Alto 800. The month of February had seen a drastic slow down in sales, which was a record 12-year low registering a 25.71 percent decline to 1,58,513 units.
