Search engine giant Google has begun selling its Nexus 7 tablet for the Indian market. Google is selling the tablet through its Google Play Store. Earlier only the 16 GB version of the tablet was available at the store and it was priced at Rs. 15,999.

The company say that the device will be shipped by April 5, 2013, if a customer places an order by March 26, 2013. However, the price mentioned does not include shipping charges and it needs to be paid through the debit or credit card. The payment screen does not show any extra shipping charges, for now at least. The development has come after Eric Schmit, the Google Executive Chairman, visited India recently.

Eric, during his visit, promised that he will soon sell the Nexus device in the Indian market and that it wanted it to be a fully serviced market. However, this is certainly not the first time the device has been launched in India. Earlier, companies like Asus, which manufactures the device, had started selling it in limited quantities through the Croma Retail Stores, with a price tag of Rs. 19,999.

The price of the new Nexus 7 in India is slightly higher than its price in the US market, as there are other factors like import duty and transit costs which need to be added in the subcontinent.
