China’s new first lady turned out to be quite different from her predecessors, as she managed to turn heads during Xi Jinping’s first international trip, since he took the reigns of the country. Peng Liyuan is China’s new first lady and during her weekend trip to Russia she managed to woo the Chinese social media.
On Friday, various photographs of Peng started going viral. In the pictures the first lady was seen stepping off a plane in Moscow with her husband Xi. This also marks the first stop on the Presidents trip abroad, ever since he took over on March 14, 2013. The first lady was seen wearing black high heels and stockings, she also carried off a light blue scarf tucked under a dark trench-coat. Peng held a leather bag and had turned up her collar against the wind.
Xi is currently the most powerful person in China. The President is also the head of what is now the world’s second largest economy. However, there are chances that when the president arrives on Tuesday at the Brics summit in South Africa, people will be looking at his better half, at least in his home country. There have been many comparisons made between Xi and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, as well as Raisa Gorbachev and Michelle Obama. Even Kate Middleton has been brought into the mix quite often.
In 2011, the Chinese first lady was appointed as the goodwill ambassador for the World Health Organisation, for Aids and tuberculosis.
