Newly formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced on April 15, 2013, that their leader Arvind Kejriwal is all set to contest the elections. The elections have been scheduled later this year and the process of selecting the candidates for the polls have also been revealed. The AAP has an aim to gain position and to become an alternative to either the Congress or the BJP in the upper echelons of the country’s political hierarchy.
Another interesting fact about the process of candidate selection has surfaced. Any resident of Delhi who has the support of a minimum of 100 people becomes eligible to fill out a form for candidature and submit it to the party by May 5, 2013. These forms will then be screened, after which the final list will be announced within two months. The selected candidates will be interviewed by the political affairs committee.
On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party has not yet announced from which consultancy Kejriwal will be contesting the elections. Manish Sisodia, a senior member of the party, said that its members are quite enthusiastic and positive about Kejriwal contesting the polls. Sisodia also announced that the party plans to invite applications and recommendations from common people for all the 70 constituencies in Delhi. The party leader also added that it has not yet decided if any top leader will be contesting the polls.
