Salman Khurshid, External Affairs Minister of India is all set to begin his two-day visit to China on May 9, 2013. The experts’ opinion is that the visit will demonstrate the maturity of both sides to deal with border issues and also put an emphasis on the relationship development.
The trip by Khurshid is coming after a three-week border standoff between India and China. The Minister will be meeting Premier Li Keqiang and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing. On May 8, 2013, Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that China and India have timely and properly solved the standoff in accordance with the common interests and wishes of both sides.
Spokesperson at the conference Hua Chunying said, “The Chinese side always believes that healthy and stable relations between the twoemerging economies are in line with the two peoples’ interests and peace of Asia and the world”. Problems between the two countries have increased after Indian media claimed that Chinese defense troops trespassed on the Indian territory in the western sector of the border area in mid-April.
Khurshid also suggested that he might reconsider his travel plans if there was no progress in resolving the dispute.
