A consumer forum has directed the Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel to pay a compensation of Rs. 10,000 to one of its customers. The forum has directed the company to pay compensation for providing faulty internet connection. The East District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum stated that the company provided a faulty service to its customer, as their Internet connection was not adequate.
The forum made such conclusion by observing emails exchanged between the two parties, in which telecom company admitted that the connection was faulty. A bench presided by N A Zaidi said, “The connection was not fully operationally. This has been admitted by opposite party in their reply that due to fault in the system of the complainant, he could not use the Wi-Fi connection. We allow this complaint. The opposite party (Airtel) shall rectify the defect in the Wi-Fi system of the complainant”.
The complainant J K Mittal was awarded the compensation of Rs. 10,000 for the inconvenience caused to him. Mittal stated in his complaint that he paid Rs. 1,500 for setting up the connection but was not able to use the Internet as the system was faulty.
The complainant also made several complaints for which no action was taken.
