Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will now adopt advanced and high-tech cleaning machines in order to maintain cleanliness at its metro stations. The DMRC issued a press statement on May 12, 2013 introducing a number of new equipments and machines which will keep the entire system clean and hygienic at all times.
With the introduction of new equipments, DMRC aims to ensure mechanized cleaning operations by deployment of new machinery. The statement also said that in addition to the existing machinery, new machines including electronically operated scrubber drier and back pack vacuum cleaner have also been provided.
DMRC will also introduce dust-free sweeping and cleaning operations, garbage disposal in bio-degradable disposal bags in a hygienic manner and use of eco-friendly cleaning chemicals. The statement also said that the British Institute of Cleaning Sciences in Gurgaon will train all team leaders and supervisors of the cleaning teams who are deputed at the stations.
DMRC added that it deployed 3,500 housekeeping personnel at its 137 stations who are working in three shifts of 8 hours each. This means that, on an average, 20 to 25 persons are deployed per station to keep the station clean. New move by DMRC is bound to help improve the facilities at the stations.
