Controversial Indian cricketer Shanthakumar Sreesanth and two other bowlers will appear in court over allegations that they accepted around ten thousand dollars for spot-fixing. Sreesanth was arrested along with his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila last week, for deliberately bowling badly in specific overs during the ongoing T20 League.

On the condition of anonymity, one of the senior police officials said, “We will seek further custody of the players in the court as we need to interrogate them further”. The official went on to say that 11 bookmakers have been arrested as part of the same inquiry and will also appear in court in New Delhi’s Saket.

Sreesanth has played 27 Tests for India and is alleged to have been paid Rs. 4 million to give away 14 runs in an over in a match against Kings XI Punjab on May 9, 2013. According to investigators, they have seized Rs. 20 lakh found in a cricket kit bag hidden in a house belonging to a relative of Chandila in Haryana.

Police officers who were investigating this case said that the three were acting under the orders from international crime syndicates.
