Taxi fares in Beijing will be hiked, as the plan regarding this issue has been finalized. The hike will come into effect on Monday, June 10, 2013. The plan regarding increased fares has been finalized on June 6, 2013 and it has been determined that the base fare will be increased from 10 yuan to 13 yuan for the first three kilometers.

After the first three kilometers, the rate will rise to 2.3 yuan per kilometer, from the current 2 yuan. This information about the hike in taxi fares was given by the municipal commission of reform and development. However, the fuel surcharges will go down from 3 yuan to 1 yuan per ride. The final plan had two proposals which were discussed at a hearing on May 23, 2013, as 23 out of 25 representatives, including regular citizens as well as taxi drivers, voted in favor of the hike and 21 supported the two submitted plans regarding the raise of the base fare.

Both original plans were in favor of raising the base fare from 10 yuan to 13 yuan for the first three kilometers. Out of all representatives present, 13 supported the first plan to lift the rate per km after the first three km to 2.3 yuan from the current 2 yuan, while eight of them favored the second plan.

The Beijing taxi market has also been improved with the introduction of a dedicated phone number to help passengers with booking taxis.
