Pakistani troops, along with a team of heavily-armed terrorists, attacked an Indian Army patrol along the Line of Control in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir in India. The Indian soldiers were attacked during the early hours of August 6, 2013, killing five of them.
The incident happened just a few hours after the violation of ceasefire in Samba sector on Monday, August 5, 2013, when one of the BSF soldiers was injured. The Indian Army informed that about 15 to 20 terrorists intruded into the Indian territory and were backed by Pakistani Army regulars, after they crossed over the LoC at about 1 am and attacked six members of the Indian patrol.
One of the officers said, “Five of our soldiers from the 21 Bihar Regiment died in the firefight around 450 meters inside our territory, while one was injured”. Sources said that the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists and the Pakistani Army took advantage of the weather conditions to sneak across the LoC.
The injured member of the Indian Army is likely to be shifted to Command Hospital Northern Command, if the weather conditions permit. At present, the injured soldier is undergoing treatment at Military Hospital in Poonch. In a year, this is the second biggest attack in Poonch area.
