The diesel engine plant of Maruti Suzuki at Manesar in Haryana caught a minor fire on September 18, 2013. So far, no injuries have been reported from the site. The fire was sourced in one furnace at the Suzuki Powertrain India Private Ltd, at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday.
The factory workers said that the fire started in one of the heat treatment furnace, which is located near the plant's forging unit and was controlled within a couple of minutes by the company-owned fire brigade, which was able to successfully douse the fire. The fire lasted for about thirty minutes and damaged the heat treatment unit at the plant, but the exact severity of the damage is not known yet.
Maruti Suzuki in a statement said that the fire was quickly extinguished and no injury was reported during the incident. The company also said that there were no losses in production and the work continues as usual. Maruti utilizes the engine plant in order to make diesel power units of the Swift Dzire family, Sx4 sedan and Ertiga MPV. The facility was previously owned by the parent Suzuki Motor Corporation, however, it became part of Maruti Suzuki after the merger was completed in March 2013.
