Toronto-based company Kobo has launched four of its new tablets – which are all optimized for electronic reading – for the Indian market on October 17, 2013.

The prices of the latest devices range from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 14,000 and they are able to support all major e-book formats, such as mobi and epub. Kobo has teamed up with Crossword, WHSmith and Croma in order to sell the new devices in the country. Wayne White, the company’s executive vice president and general manager at the launch event said that Kobo sees a huge potential in India.

White said, “India is in the early stages of what we believe is a 25-year transformation from print to digital reading”. During the event, White also stated that the company has partnered with some of the leading booksellers and retailers in India. The company wants to make sure that it provides a fully localized experience to its users and to meet the country’s huge demand for digital content.

The latest products that Kobo launched include Kobo Arc, Kobo Touch, Kobo Glo and Kobo Aura HD. All devices are Wi-Fi only and do not support mobile network and are specifically designed for e-reading. The cheapest of the lot is Kobo Touch, which costs Rs. 7,999.
