As the holiday season is just around the corner, US tech giant Apple Inc. is busy adding new devices to its iPad lineup. In addition to that, the company reduced the price of its Mac computers, making them more appealing for customers during the upcoming shopping season. Apple is making efforts to expand its iPad lineup, as it is facing immense stress due to the increasing competition in the tablet market.
At an event held on October 22, 2013 in San Francisco, the company unveiled its new thinner tablet – known as the iPad Air – along with a few new Macs. Compared to previous 1.4-pound versions, the latest iPad Air weighs just 1 pound. The company's marketing chief Phil Schiller said that the new iPad is extremely fast, as it is eight times faster than the original iPad which was launched in 2010.
The iPad Air will go on sale on November 1, 2013 and the 16 GB version has been priced at $499. The US-based company is planning to launch its third and fourth generation iPads, while its iPad 2 will continue to be sold at $399 for the 16 GB model.
The market share of iPad has been decreasing in recent times, due to cheaper models introduced by Apple's rivals.
