Japan-based auto giant Nissan Motors said that it will begin offering Infinity-badged cars in Japan. This will be the first time that the company will be selling these vehicles, in an attempt to position the brand as a global competitor. The second-biggest carmaker in Japan said that it will offer its redesigned Skyline sedan which will feature the Infinity badge in the front, as well as steering wheel and wheels from February 2014.
The model in question is sold as the Infinity Q50 in overseas markets. The latest move has been made as part of Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn’s plan, which is to further develop the 25-year-old Infinity brand – primarily sold in the US – and make it eligible to compete globally with the likes of Volkswagen AG’s Audi and Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz.
Hiroto Saikawa, the Executive Vice president said, “We decided to put on the Infiniti badge so that we can promise to our customers that the new Skyline is a global premium sedan”.
The company informed that it will begin selling its redesigned Infinity-badged Skyline at the Nissan dealerships in Japan. Moreover, Ghosn has set massive goals for the Infinity and is aiming to triple the global sales by 2017, in addition to expanding its share of the premium market, where the Infinity cars are sold.
