US-based computer manufacturer HP and search engine giant Google have announced a recall of the original charger for the HP Chromebook 11. Google confirmed on December 17, 2013 that it will replace customers’ original chargers of the Chromebook 11 free of charge.

Customers who are eligible for a free replacement are the ones who purchased the device before December 1, 2013 and they can fill out an online request form for a brand new charger. The search engine giant also said that it will mail qualifying customers a new charger, in addition to a pre-paid shipping package to return the original charger, which will then be disposed accordingly.

The company also warned that users must immediately stop using the recalled charger. In November 2013, HP and Google paused sales of the Chromebook 11 after users reported that the devices’ chargers were overheating. Google stated at that point that it was working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in order to determine the proper course of action.

The search engine giant said that the CPSC and other agencies made a decision that the recall was in order. Apart from the recall, Google also announced that it has resumed the sales of its Chromebook 11 and new purchases of the device will have the improved charger.
