The biggest telecom operator in China, China Mobile is all set to offer commercial fourth generation – 4G – telecom services in 340 cities in the country. The upcoming 4G services are likely to be launched during 2014.
The Chairman of China Mobile Ltd, Xi Guohua said on December 18, 2013 that the company is planning to build 500,000 4G base stations across the country in 2014, which will constitute the world’s biggest 4G network. Xi talked about the development at the China Mobile Global Partner Conference which was held in Guangzhou.
The chairman said, “China Mobile’s marketing focus next year is in terminal sales, since mobile terminals are the foundation for mobile Internet development”. Xi also predicted that the total number of TD-LTE mobile phone models will surpass 200 and the entry-level 4G smartphones will become available on the market in 2014. The telecom company is targeting sales of 190 million to 220 million mobile terminals which run on its wireless networks by 2014.
The company is going to offer lucrative subsidies in order to attract more customers. In 2013, the company is expected to invest 27 billion yuan in handset subsidies. After the popularity of 3G services, the 4G services are all set to attract new customers.
