Tablet manufacturer Metis Learning released on January 23, 2014?an Android-powered tablet for children – dubbed Eddy – in the Indian market. The new tablet has been priced at Rs. 9,999 and is targeted towards children aged between 2 and 10 years.
The focus of the tablet is on educational content and there will also be infotainment apps pre-loaded on the device. The new Eddy is offered to customers at an introductory price of Rs. 9,999 until February 20, 2014 and is at present exclusively available on the online retail store Amazon.com.
Bharat Gulia, the Metis Learning CEO during the launch said, ?India is a huge potential market for tablets and the country saw the sale of about 4.5 million units last year. The kinds tablet space has a potential of about 4.5 units.? Gulia went on to say that Eddy is the only tablet which is built to map school curriculum to games and a team with more than 100 years of combined experience has been responsible for its design.
Gulia was asked about the number of units that the company plans to sell, to which he answered that they expect to sell about 50,000 units in the first year. Eddy features a 7-inch screen with 1.6 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and an internal memory of 8 GB.
