Officials from the National Highway Safety Administration (NHSA) stated on January 22, 2014 that they need to establish protocols on making child car seats. Many times, parents are taking for granted the fact that their child will be safe when they put him in a car seat.
The US government has already fixed guidelines and safety standards, which might not always be the most efficient ones. A promotional video which has been released recently shows that a car does not always crash from the front, but can also receive an impact from the side. Many cars have safety features which are meant to protect children in side-impact crashes, however, there are no federal guidelines requiring them.
The NHTSA said on January 22, 2014 that products like these can be effective, but the US officials intend to establish protocols to make sure they are safe enough. Car seat companies like safety first promote their own testing and the government agency which controls such guidelines wants formal performance standards and wishes to implement a sled-test that has an actual vehicle which t-bones another one.
Meanwhile, the administration of Obama believes that the implementation of such guidelines will help in saving the lives of children every year and keep dozens more from being injured.
