Luxury car maker from Germany, Mercedes-Benz started the new year with record sales in January 2014. The auto giant received huge demands from China, which is considered as one of the most lucrative markets in the world. A sales report was released on February 5, 2014, which showed that the company delivered a total of 109,477 vehicles globally in January 2014.
A statement from the company said that the figure was 15.4 percent higher than the records from 2013. Meanwhile, China – as a single country – contributed the most to the company’s record sales, as 24,199 vehicles have been delivered during the period, which is 44.9 percent more than in January 2013. The company sold 22,604 vehicles in the United States with a year-on-year growth of 0.5 percent.
Mercedes-Benz’s home market of Europe also saw an increase in sales by 5.9 percent, to 40,830 cars. Even in Germany, the famous brand delivered 13,595 vehicles and managed to gain a market share of 9.2 percent. Ola Kallenius, the Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes Benz Cars responsible for marketing and sales said, “After the record year in 2013 we are starting into another year of growth with strong products”.
During 2013, the company sold a total of 1.46 million vehicles across the globe and fell behind its main rival Audi.
