The government of Dhaka recently increased electricity prices. The move has been criticized by the BNP leader Nazrul Islam Khan on March 5, 2014, who said that the administration must provide cheaper rates of power to people.
Khan said, “Everything will get pricier as long as they will be in office, while people’s lives will keep on losing the value. So, change the government if you want the power tariff to fall”. The standing committee member of BNP expressed concerns during the meeting of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal central committee which was held at Mahbub Ali Auditorium in the Shahjahanpur.
Khan also said that if the electricity prices are increased, then the prices of essentials will also be hiked. The standing committee member argued that this will only increase sufferings of the public and that they are strongly against the power hike. Nazrul raised his voice and said that the government must stop looting public money for quick rental power plants and increase their competence to control power pilferage which will emit the need to hike power prices.
While talking about the upazila polls, the BNP leader said that the ruling party leaders claim that they are popular, but the upazila polls revealed that their popularity is decreasing.
