US-based software giant Microsoft said on March 18, 2014 that it will release its latest Xbox One gaming and entertainment console in 26 new countries by September 2014. So far, both Microsoft and its main rival Sony had strong holiday sales following the release of their next-gen consoles in November 2013.

Yusuf Mehdi from Microsoft in a blog post said, “On the heels of the most successful Xbox launch in history, we continue to be blown away by the support and engagement of our fans”. The blog post went on to state that it is time to ensure that more fans across the globe can enjoy the company’s Xbox One console.

Mehdi went on to say that they are proud to share that the next-gen console will be available in 26 additional markets in September 2014. With the recent announcement, the company has intensified the competition in front of Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Nintendo’s Wii U and is attempting to be at the heart of the digital home entertainment. The console market is under pressure to prove its value, as an increasing number of people are turning towards smartphones or tablets for games and videos.

The US-based software giant has hopes that its new Titanfall – which is exclusive to its platform – will boost the sales of the Xbox One. In 2013, Microsoft announced that it will launch the Xbox One in 21 countries.
