A market tracker revealed that the market for mobile advertising doubled in 2013 and managed to reach $17.9 billion and is on its way to even bigger revenues in 2014, primarily thanks to tech giants Facebook and Google. It has been reported by a research firm eMarketer that mobile ad spending saw an increase of 105% in 2013 and is expected to rise another 75% – to over $31.45 billion – in 2014.

Facebook and Google increase revenues in mobile advertising

It has also been said that Google and Facebook grabbed the biggest share of the increase in 2013. eMarketer said that the search engine giant remained far ahead of its competitors, but still experienced its market share decrease to 49.3% in 2013, compared to 52.6% in 2012. On the other hand, the biggest earnings came from the online social networking service, whose market share saw a significant increase, from 5.4% in 2012 to 17.5% in 2013.

Moreover, Twitter also experienced strong gains, though its market share was a relatively modest 2.4% in 2013, compared to 1.5% in 2012. eMarketer revealed its predictions for 2014 and stated that Google would have 46.8%, Facebook would be at 21.7% and Twitter would be third with 2.6%.

Thanks to the massive growth in mobile ads, it is no wonder why these companies are focusing on their mobile platforms. eMarketer explained that only 11% of Facebook ad revenues all over the world came from mobile in 2012, however, that number increased to 45% in 2013 and is expected to rise further, to around 63% in 2014.
