The Prime Minister of Malaysia announced on March 24, 2014 that the missing Malaysian Airlines jet ended its journey in the Southern Indian Ocean. The announcement angered and saddened relatives of the passengers who were aboard a missing flight.
A number of relatives of the missing passengers are staying at the Beijing hotel and many started shouting and crying following the announcement. Some of them even collapsed on the floor after the unfortunate announcement. As many as four people had to be carried out on stretchers following the Prime Minister’s announcement. The MH370 flight of the Malaysian Airlines disappeared from civilian radar screens in less than an hour following its take-off from Kuala Lumpur.
The jet was en route to Beijing on March 8, 2014 with 239 people on board and more than half of the passengers were Chinese nationals. So far, there is no confirmation regarding the plane’s sighting, however, plenty of debris has been found in waters which might be part of the ill-fated plane. Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak said that fresh analysis of satellite information from the British company Inmarsat showed that the final position of the jet was in the Indian Ocean, west of Perth in Australia.
The government of China is urging the airline and the Malaysian government to give more information to family members and ensure that they are properly taken care of.
