The new chief executive officer of Microsoft, Satya Nadella has launched Office for Apple’s iPad. The latest release has created a strong presence of Nadella as the new CEO of the software giant. The launch also signaled Nadella’s plans to make mobile apps the tech giant’s top priority.
During a press conference on March 27, 2014, executives showed a new ‘touch-first’ version of Microsoft Office, which is specifically designed for the iPad and is available for download as a free app. However, a subscription is needed in order to allow users to create or edit their documents, as opposed to just reading them. It has been noticed that executives did not demonstrate any software on Windows machines.
The presentation was started off by Nadella with a low-key introduction to the company’s new mobile and cloud-centric world of computing. This marked the CEO’s first public appearance since taking over his new role 52 days back. Nadella appeared in a black polo t-shirt and dark jeans.
The new CEO did not give any hints on when the company will release the touch-first version of the Office apps for Windows 8, which is the latest version of the operating software that he said had fallen behind the mobile area.
