The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said that the latest project will start in Laos and the country will reportedly be involved in setting up a real-time agricultural information system. Moreover, an agreement on this subject is scheduled to be signed in Vientiane later on April 30, 2014.

According to the agreement, South Korea will be responsible for building a national system which will show food supply conditions in the Southeast Asian area, as well as throughout the world. This kind of information will be announced by South Korea and all ten nations, members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The ministry said that the report will help them in preparing for the possibility of food shortage or price increases.

The latest Laos project belongs to South Korea’s official development aid program for the countries of ASEAN and the main goal is to establish the ASEAN Food Security Information System. The country is planning to spend about 2.1 billion won in order to help set up the information system in six more countries by 2016.
