Chinese electronics company Xiaomi launched its first tablet on May 15, 2014. The company’s recent launch will be challenging the dominance of Apple’s iPad in the sector. The latest Xiaomi tablet is very similar to the iPad Mini series and will become the biggest challenger for Apple’s popular device.
The founder and chief executive officer at the Beijing-based company said that the new device is a good competitor to Apple’s iPad and is all set to go on sale in June 2014. Lei added, “Apple should feel some pressure, because our product will let it know not every Android tablet is resting in a drawer somewhere”. The company’s tablet has a longer battery life, better camera, as well as lower price tag when compared to Apple’s product.
The Xiaomi tablet is priced at 1,699 yuan for the 64-gigabyte version and it is almost 3,500 yuan cheaper than the 64 GB iPad Mini version. However, the Xiaomi tablet cannot take the place of the iPad series when it comes to the number of applications. For the new gadget, the company has developed 100 utility apps and 400 games which are suitable for it.
The online store of Apple has 1 million apps and during the fourth quarter of 2013, the iPad series took more than 60 percent of the tablet sales in China.
