South Korean giant Samsung has launched the world’s first smartphone which is powered by the Tizen operating system. The new Samsung Z will go on sale in Russia during the July to September quarter. So far most of the Samsung phones used the Android platform as its operating system.
But in recent times, Samsung has been working with the chipmaker Intel to develop Tizen which is an alternative operating system. The new move will help Samsung to be less dependent on Google’s operating system. Andrew Milroy, the vice president with the consulting firm Frost & Sullivan while talking to the reporters said, “It enables Samsung to hedge its bets much better compared to some of its rivals”.
Milroy added that it is not much likely to make a dent on the existing Android market. Samsung will be unveiling the device at the Tizen Development Conference which is being held this week in San Francisco. The company has so far not disclosed the pricing of the device. At present Samsung is the world’s best selling Android device manufacturer, but many other rivals like HTC, LG, Sony and Huawei also use the operating system to power many of its devices.
Samsung in recent times has been looking for new ways to make new products to keep up in the increasingly competitive market.
