Facebook users left in the lurch as severs go down for half an hour.
Social networking giant – Facebook – returned to service after it faced a global outage for about half an hour on June 19, 2014. A large number of users were unable to access the network leading to complaints on other services like Twitter.
Menlo Park from Facebook in an email statement said, “Earlier this morning, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time.” However, the statement did not mention any information about the reason for the disruption.
Facebook has about 1 billion users across the globe and constantly works on making changes in its hardware and software to help reduce the server downtime and to also deal with greater traffic load.
On June 19, 2014 visitors to the social network saw a message which said: “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
Some of the major cities which were affected by the service disruption included – New Delhi, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Taipei, Johannesburg, Paris and London.
Reports say that the mobile service of FB was also affected as status updates and messages did not load in time during the disruption. Earlier, Facebook experienced a major failure in April 2010 when its servers had gone down for about 2.5 hours.
