The flight which was flying from Burkina Faso to Algiers across the Sahara had 110 passengers and 6 crew members on board.

An official from Burkina Faso said, “They found human remains and the wreckage of the plane totally burnt and scattered”. About 50% of the passengers on the flight were French and the other passengers were Algerians, Germans, Canadians, Egyptians and a few passengers were from Mali, Ukraine and Nigeria.

Laurent Fabius, the French Foreign Minister said that if the catastrophe is confirmed then it can prove to be a major tragedy. According to French officials, the extremists in Mali do not have enough weapons to be able to shoot down a passenger flight owing to its high cruising altitude.

This latest incident will be another major blow for the aviation industry, It was only last week that Malaysian Airlines’ MH17 was shot down as it was flying over the tumultuous region of Ukraine.

In the wake of such aviation disasters, a number of US and European airlines have been selectively canceling flights to Israel after an incident of rocket landing near the Tel Aviv airport was reported in the media.
