Officials at Nepal have informed that more than 3,300 people had died in the massive earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25, 2015. The National Emergency Operation Centre has informed that the calamity has injured more than 6,500 people.
Tremors have also been felt at the in certain regions of China and India. The earthquake was measured 7.8 at the richter scale that triggered deadly avalanches around Mount Everest. The capital city Kathmandu saw several tents put up for people who have been displaced or are afraid to return to their homes after the strong tremors.
Officials say that the number of casualties are expected to increase as the rescue volunteers reach the remote mountainous regions of western Nepal. Reoprts have revealed that some of the communities who reside at the mountain side suffered damage from the quake. Matt Darvas, the spokesman for aid agency World Vision said, “Villages like this are routinely affected by landslides, and it’s not uncommon for entire villages of 200, 300, up to 1,000 people to be completely buried by rock falls”.
People are camping in open at Dhading district which is 80 kms west of Kathmandu. The hospital is overflowing, no electricity supply and the shops were closed.
