Struggling Malaysian Airlines will be sending termination letters to 20,000 of its staff from June 1, 2015. The terminations are a part of the restructure of the airlines as it has been making losses since 2008. MAS is all set to let go its staff and two thirds are expected to get offer letters to the new incarnation which is all set to begin operations in September, 2015.
Sources have revealed that some of the staff members have already started receiving termination and offers letters. More reports have revealed that not all the staff members have received same position that they held earlier in the company. The recent decision of overhaul has been taken as the new CEO Christoph Mueller is trying hard to bring the airline back to profitability in three years.
Malaysian Airlines has been suffering losses since 2008 despite its attempts to restructure and lifelines worth billions of dollars. The image of the airlines plunged due to the aviation tragedies with MH 17 and the MH 370 in 2014.
The airlines, as a part of the restructure has been selling off assets that included its stake in travel distributor Abacus. Malaysian airlines will also be reducing its fleet and will also be reducing the routes to manage costs.
