Lance Naik Hanamanthappa, who was miraculously rescued by the army officials from the Siachen avalanche, lost his battle with life on February 11, 2015. Hanamanthappa was on ventilator support at the Army’s Research & Referral Hospital in Delhi.
Army officials said, “Really sorry to inform everyone that LNk Hanamanthappa is no more. He breathed his last breath at 11:45 a.m. today”. The avalanche survivor was admitted to the R&R hospital on February 9, 2016 and had been on the ventilator since then. The condition of the soldier from the Madras regiment deteriorated due to multiple organ failure.
The Koppal district native was rescued alive on February 8, 2016 after being buried under 35 feet of snow for six days. The soldier was flown to Delhi on an Air Force aircraft. Hanamanthappa with nine other soldiers were buried by an avalanche at the camp on February 3, 2016. The bodies of the other soldiers have also been recovered from the site.
Hanamanthappa, from Koppal district in Karnataka, is survived by his wife and daughter. The soldier married wife Jayashri four years back and have a two year old daughter Netra. Reports say that Hanamanthappa had called his family just a day before the avalanche and had inquired about his family.
