In some good news for the WhatsApp, Viber and Skype users, they will soon be able to make calls to landline numbers. The wait is for the clearance from the inter-ministerial panel of the government after which the subscribers will be able to terminate calls on the landline or the mobile networks of any service provider from BSNL or MTNL’s fixed lines to the mobile numbers on Idea Cellular, Airtel, Vodafone.
The new move will lead to the reduction in the voice call charges but the quality of the call will depend on the service provider’s service. The Inter-ministerial telecom commission has cleared the move and work is soon expected to begin.
On the other hand TRAI will have to look in to the issue of termination charges that the internet companies will have to pay for transferring calls on mobile operators networks. The quality of the call on this service is not expected to be very good.
The calls will be billed as per the internet data that is used. This can be a hindrance as there are poor internet services in many parts of the country. The problem exists with most of the broadband services in the country and could prove to be a dampener in terms of the new feature.
