Telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is all set to launch 4G services in 14 telecom circles where it has broadband wireless access spectrum. The company has already launched the 4G services in Chandigarh.
BSNL is looking forward to roll-out 4G services through two methods – revenue sharing model and capex model. One of the senior officials from the company said that the company will be installing 4G base tower stations in some of the existing GSM sites which means that there will not be any additional expenses on the towers.
Talking about the device ecosystem for 2,500 MHz band the officials said that sufficient number of 4G handsets are already available in the market. Some of the companies like Apple, Google, Nokia, Motorola and Lenovo offer 4G facility on their handsets. The official added, “By considering all the facts, it appears that launch of 4G services in 2,500Mhz band is feasible and commercially remunerative”.
In January 2015, BSNL had demonstrated the speed of 35 Mbps during its soft launch in Chandigarh. The official added that the 4G customers will be owned by BSNL and the billing will be done by BSNL. BSNL said that it will be looking in to both methods before it takes the final decision to rollout.
