India is all set to get its first bullet train that will run between the cities Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It is not just the speed that making the news but the fact that the train will have a route under the sea and will cover the distance in two hours through a 21 km tunnel.
At present, Duronto Express links the two cities and takes around seven hours to complete the journey. The bullet train will have a maximum speed of 350 km/h. The 508 km long corridor will also include a 21 km tunnel that will go under the sea. The country of Japan has agreed to loan 81 percent of the funding of the project.
The signature on the loan is slated to be done by the end of the year and the construction is planned to begin by the end of 2018. The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad said that the new bullet train will have to take a hundred trips per day so as to be financially viable.
The project is estimated to cost around Rs. 97,636 crores. Theb loan from Japan will be for a period of 50 years at the rate of 0.1 percent annual interest with 15 years moratorium.
