India’s popular railway service, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) said that it is launching new initiatives that will include passenger and unreserved ticketing. The IRCTC is a subsidiary of Indian Railways that takes care of catering tourism and online ticketing operations of the Indian railways.
Arun Kumar Manocha, the chairman and managing director of IRCTC said, “We are going to start passenger insurance soon and have already issued letter of award. We have short-listed three companies. The insurance would cost less than Rs. 2 per trip for a sum insured of Rs. 10 lakh”. The IRCTC has joined hands with the State Bank of India to enable digital payments through SBI’s mobile wallet Buddy.
Manocha added that the company is working together to look out for other areas of railway ticketing activities. The Chairman also revealed that they are planning to enter the unreserved ticketing system. Manocha also informed that the IRCTC is working towards improving its Android App to make the refund process of the e-ticket cancellation easier.
Plans to provide upgraded services to the passengers is also planned as talks are on with many institutions like Institute of Hotel Management Catering and Nutrition, Pusa and Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore. The e-Wallet will be launched in a renewed form soon.
