The different variants of the coronavirus are leaving health experts concerned across the globe. The authorities in China are shutting its borders due to the fear of the new variants and will be reopening only in the second half of 2022. This is however a tentative timeline that was decided on during the cabinet meeting held in May, 2021. With this, the country is extending its pandemic border restrictions for nearly a year. China has more reasons for the restrictions as it is planning to hold some sensitive events.
The recent decision has been made in China after health officials across the globe are petrified of the recently discovered Delta variant which is known to be the fourth variant of coronavirus. As of June 21, 2021, China has reported 25 new confirmed cases in mainland which has gone up from 17 infections per day. Reports say that two cases are local infections while the rest are imported cases.
Even the number of new asymptomatic patients has increased to 27 from 19 in a day. However, the Chinese authorities do not consider them as confirmed cases. Reports have mentioned that China has reported 103,578 confirmed infections in mainland as of June 21, 2021 while the death toll has remained unchanged at 4,846.
The Wuhan province in China is the place where the virus has originated in December 2019. Since then the virus managed to spread in different parts of the world and has shown nearly the same pattern everywhere. The World Health Organization soon released a protocol for the treatment of the virus which is still continued. The progress is that a number of pharma giants managed to come up with the vaccines to fight against the virus. Some of the popular vaccines include Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Sinovac and others. People across the globe are getting prepared for the third wave of the coronavirus due to the new variants.
