Asia Bizz: Graphic Cigarette Warning Label On Boxes To Be Compulsory: FDA
Graphic Cigarette Warning Labels on the cigarette boxes will become compulsory as per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to the FDA, some 443000 people die due to smoking and its related sicknesses, as a result there needs to be a way reduce the number of smokers by presenting them with graphic images on their cigarette boxes.
The images may consist pics of corpses, oral cancer depictions and even diseased lungs, which may help in disgusting the smoker and in fact discouraging him not to smoke. Since the past 40 years it has been seen that they number of smokers around the world has been declining, but in the recent years this number seems to have stalled. At least 20% of the population in the world are smokers and from this at least 19.5% of them are below the age of 25.
Margaret Hamburg FDA Commissioner has said that “Today, FDA takes a crucial step toward reducing the tremendous toll of illness and death caused by tobacco use by proposing to dramatically change how cigarette packages and advertising look in this country.” These warning signs may become compulsory by next year, and the governments around the world need to work hard to lower this issue in the society.
