An oncoming cyclone will lead to heavy rains in Mumbai.
Weather officials said that a depression in the Arabian Sea has become into a cyclonic storm, with heavy rains and gusting winds which are likely to occur in Mumbai and other parts of India’s west coast.
Cyclone Phyan is currently situated about 600 km south-southwest off Mumbai, and was moving in a north-northeasterly direction and this is likely to become a lot more intense later on Wednesday night.
Heavy rains with wind speeds of about 80 km an hour are expected to occur soon and w warning has also been issued for fishermen to not to venture into the sea. People staying in low lying areas have been asked to evacuate.
All flights have also been delayed to upto 40 minutes.
Even the final one-day international cricket match between Australia and India, is likely to be cancelled today.
