India has signed a multi-million dollar deal with France on Monday, to build two nuclear power plants in India. The French President Nicolas Sarkozy, during his four day visit in India, had discussed the agreement with Indian PM Manmohan Singh.
Two European pressurized reactors, with a capacity of 1,650 megawatts each, will be reportedly built and installed by Areva SA, one of the main nuclear companies in France. Sources say that the nuclear reactors will be built in Jaitapur, Maharashtra.
The two nuclear reactors are among the 20 nuclear reactors, that India aims to build for the county’s increasing demands of energy. Apart from the energy deal, India is also planning to buy 126 fighter jets and 200 helicopters for the Indian Air Force.
Following the Indian demands, French companies have a plan of offering 51 Mirage-2000 jet fighters for the Indian Air Force. Reports also say that the French President is also interested in attracting Indian companies to invest in French companies.
