Asia Bizz: Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd (MEPS) and Citibank Bhd signed an agreement which enables Citibank to be a part of the MEPS network. This agreement will help Citibank customers to have access to around 9,600 automated teller machines (ATMs) spread across 2,000 locations across the nation.

The agreement between Citibank Bhd and Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd will come into action early next year and the and the services included will be from balance inquiries, loan repayments, cash withdrawals and inter-bank funds transfers via ATM’s.

In a statement release by Citibank, the company said,

“With this partnership, Citibank will bring to its clients’ convenience, flexibility and access across Malaysia, further expanding its distribution network”.

Citibank also said that this agreement goes hand in hand with the government plans for efficient payment system in Malaysia. Citibank in the year 2005 also became the first international bank to get complete access to MEPS Interbank GIRO in Malaysia.
