Asia Bizz: Finnish cellphone manufacturer, Nokia, has decided to expand its presence in China, by providing the nation with location-based services. Nokia will launch the Ovi maps application in China during the first quarter of 2011. Nokia will team up with Sina Corp and Tencent Holdings Ltd to bring in this service in China.
This service turned out to be successful after the Nokia Alliance Internet Services Company Limited, which is also a joint venture between Nokia and Shanghai Alliance Investment Limited, had obtained the licence of local map search. This will prove to be a boon to both China and the Finnish cellphone maker, in terms of business and economy.
Sina and Tencent’s applications will come installed on the Ovi map application. Through this service, the user will be able to load location data and comments once logged in. Nokia has long been a cellphone manufacturer, but now it looking forward to establish an internet-based service in China, through its mapping service.
