Asia Bizz: French car manufacturer, Renault, will be launching a new small car in India very soon. As the demand for smaller cars in the country has been increasing in folds, the company has sought this as an opportunity to bring its latest offering to third largest car market in the Asia. The vehicle is expected to make a debut during the Auto Expo in January 2012.

According to the Deputy Managing Director of Renault India, Sudhir Rao, the car will be based between Maruti Swift and the Nissan Micra, thus making it quite competitive in the Indian market. The latest reports show the car is being tested on the outskirts of the Nissan-Renault factory in India, where both Nissan and Renault have invested around Rs.4500 cr as a joint venture.

The Oragadam factory would release the ‘Fluence’, ‘Koleos and the small hatchback very soon, thus bringing the target of manufacturing one lakh units for Renault. There are currently 15 dealers in the country, Renault expects to increase this number to 100 in the coming few years. For now, the company is not looking forward to export their vehicles, but rather concentrate on the domestic market first.
