Asia Bizz: In some not so good news for all prospective car buyers, Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has announced on November 15, 2011 that it will be increasing the prices of its Hatchback Swift and Dzire sedan. There would be a hike of Rs. 10,000 in order to offset the rising input costs.
A spokesperson of the company announced that the hiked prices will take immediate effect. Moreover, the price of the small car Ritz will also be increased by just Rs. 2,000, but the Swift, SX4 and the Dzire would be available for Rs. 10,000 more than it actual cost.
The spokesperson added that the prices have been increased in order to appreciate the yen and that there was also plenty of pressure due to the rise in the input costs. Maruti has played it hike card after the festive season of Diwali has finished and all the customers are sitting at home.
The festive season saw heavy sales of the cars especially in the diesel version and the companies had also offered heavy discounts on the petrol versions due to the reduction in the sales. The companies are now facing a shortage in diesel cars as the cost of petrol is on its way to hit the 100 mark soon.
