Asia Bizz: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, which once offered Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services, has reportedly called off the service. BSNL has called off the service due to the poor response and lack of subscribers to it.
The state-owned telecom company had joined hands with MyWay for the IPTV services. MyWay is a digital entertainment owned by Smart TV Group. The group earlier was in partnership with MTNL and BSNL to provide co-branded interactive video services to subscribers in 54 cities across India.
One of the spokespersons of MyWay confirmed the reports that the Indian operations of the group has been stopped as they had turned highly unviable. The representatives of the company have started collecting back set top boxes issued to customers in Chennai.
The set top boxes are being taken back despite the fact that no official announcement of the suspension of the operations has been communicated. No notice has been conveyed on MyWay’s web portal about the calling off of the services. Some of the IPTV fans were also surprised on the decision of the suspension of the service. Some of the subscribers were attracted by the movie on demand feature that had allowed the users to download movies on the computer so that they could be watched at their convenient time.
