Asia Bizz: Telecom giant Airtel, in association with Twitter, is now offering free access to the mobile version of Twitter. Now Airtel subscribers can access Twitter on their phones and the subscribers do not have to bear the additional data usage charges.

Airtel subscribers can make the best use of the offer till March 1, 2012. Moreover, the users will also get Twitter updates on their mobile phones through SMS for free.

While the usage of Twitter will be free, the opening of the other links shared by Twitter users will be charged according to the normal data usage. For the convenience of the users, Airtel will alert the users when they try to navigate away from Twitter to a different website.

In May 2010, the social networking site Facebook teamed up with 50 mobile phone operators and offered cell phone users 0.facebook.com, which is a stripped down version of the social network. The users were offered free access without incurring data charges. Facebook, again, this year in the month of July, tied up with the mobile service providers to offer free data access for a 90 day period. Some of the providers with who Facebook collaborated include Airtel, Aircel, Reliance and Idea.
