Asia Bizz: Indian electronics giant Videocon is reportedly planning to set up its first mobile phone manufacturing plant in India. The first mobile plant can entail an investment of up to Rs 75 crores in the initial phase.
In the upcoming year, Videocon is planning to sell around 2.5 million mobile handsets. At present, the company is looking for appropriate locations for the new plant across the Asian country particularly at Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Chhattisgarh.
Anirudh Dhoot, the Videocon Industries Director, said that the company is ready to put up a mobile phone manufacturing unit in India next year. Dhoot added that at present Videocon sources it Original Equipment Manufacturers in the country.
The new move indicated that Videocon is all set to start its own unit. The company already sells electronics products like TVs, refrigerators and many other appliances and last year entered the mobile market under the brand ‘Videocon’. Dhoot revealed that they have been invited by Indian states like Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, but till now they have not decided the location for the plant. The company has sold 1.5 million mobile phones till date and is planning a 66 percent increase in the sales to 2.5 units in the upcoming year.
