Asia Bizz: The popular and economical Aakash tablet can now be purchased online at a price of Rs. 2,500 and Indian customers from across the nation are frantically trying to buy the limited number of tablet PCs which are up for grabs. The maker of the tablet, Datawind, has put up some 30,000 tablets on sale and the delivery will be made within seven days.
The tablet which is powered by the Android 2.2 operating system is now available at the online portal aakashtablet.com. Suneet Singh Tuli, the CEO and the founder of Datawind, stated that 30,000 tablets have been put for sale online, which will be available on the ‘cash on delivery’ basis.
Singh added that at present they have received 4,00,000 pre orders of the tablet from corporate as well as individuals, but the current supplies will only be limited for the individual buyers. The company is now also preparing for the launch of the commercial version of the tablet known as the Ubislate 7 which supports both WIfI and GPRS. The Ubislate 7 has a faster processor and is expected to be launched in the month of January 2012.
Certain reports state that the Indian government is also planning to provide a new specification for ‘Aakash’, which is expected to have a faster processor and also a better battery life. As far as the current version of the ‘Aakash’ is concerned, it has a battery life of 1.5 hours and comes with WiFi, Android 2.2 OS and Arm11 – 366Mhz microprocessor.
