Asia Bizz: The 7th All India Savio Cup Don Bosco Basketball Tournament in Mumbai saw Indian state-owned oil and gas company ONGC beat Punjab by 61-42 to win the men’s title and Southern Railway grabbed the women’s title with a 87-49 win against South East Central Railway. The Savio Cup 2012 finals took place on January 15, 2012 at Don Bosco, Matunga in Mumbai.

Team ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) started off with a convenient lead while defending Punjab. Only in the final minutes, ONGC faced some physical play from the frustrated players of Punjab. The ONGC players claimed the winning cheque of Rs 1 lakh and the joy was doubled as Vishesh Brughuvanshi was announced as the ‘Player of The Tournament’.

At the Womens all-railways final, Southern Railway managed to outplay South East Central and grabbed the title, taking home the prize money of Rs. 50,000. From the Southern Railways team, Kokila Subramaniam was announced as the ‘Player of the Tournament’. The scores of the teams were as follows:

Women: Southern Railway 87 (Anitha P 27, Kokila S 18, Geetu Anna Jose 13, Adhiri M 11) bt South East Central Railway 49 (Seema Singh 20, Pushpa M 15). Quarter-wise score: 29-11, 59-19, 73-35, 87-49.

Men: ONGC 61 (Anoop Mishra 17, Trideep Rai 16, Murali Krishna 12) bt Punjab 42 (Amitpal Singh Sr. 13, Jagdeep Singh 10, Amjot Singh 10). Quarter-wise score: 22-10, 35-18, 56-22, 61-42.
